To relax before the upcoming AP Language and Composition exam, Ms. Bloom asserted Oscar Wilde's belief that "It is what you read when you don't have to that determines what you will be when you can't help it." She therefore took her class to the library to choose non-fiction books to read over vacation. Our brilliant librarians Mr. Katz and Ms. Kurtz assisted in recommending books to fit each students' interests. They did such a great job that most students took out multiple books. Books chosen ranged in topic from medical ethics (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Roberta Skloot), geography, demography and ecology (Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond), psychology (The Man Who Mistook his Wife for a Hat by Oliver Sacks) to madness and math (A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nassar).
