Falcon's Nest Notes: Offensive Explosion Powers Falcons Over NSHA in JV/Varsity Double Header

The Flatbush Boys JV & Varsity Hockey teams took the show on the road for the first time this season, and the offense was on display for all the League to see as they downed the host squads from North Shore by scores of 7-1 and 6-1 respectively in Great Neck, NY.

First up were the JV Falcons, making their 2014-15 season debut. It marked Sophomore Sam Laniado’s first appearance in a JV game (having played his rookie season last year sharing time on the top two Varsity Falcon lines), and he drew the lion’s share of defensive attention from the North Shore Stars. That focus allowed Flatbush to spread out the offense, allowing fellow Sophomore Nathan Mosseri to tally a pair of goals in the game (the only Falcon scorer to put more than one goal past the Stars netminder), his first regular season appearance on Flatbush maroon and gold. Complimenting Laniado’s offensive stick work was Sophomore Natanel Nemet; both Laniado and Nemet recorded a pair of assists each on the night. Defensively, Sophomore Aaron Kubie was stellar in goal, leting only one errant North Shore shot get past. It was a great start to what looks to be a very promising season for the Flatbush JV Hockey team.

In the nightcap, the Varsity picked up on the energy of the younger Falcons, and continued the offensive onslaught. And no one was more energized than Senior offenseman Ben Vilinsky. Vilinsky had a career night, recording a hat trick plus one! Yes, Vilinsky led the Falcons with four - count them - four goals! Not to be outdone, teammate Sol Sasson also recorded four points, with a pair of goals and a pair of assists. Recording additional assists for the Varsity were Stevie Hafif and Jack Braha (Braha’s was his first-ever Varsity point). As sharp as Kubie was in goal for the JV, Moshe Illouz was even better. He was tested all night, and was a virtual stone wall. Afterwards, Coach Leffel had this to say of his Junior goaltender's play: "Illouz was great.....he was tested and one point made 3-4 saves in row on a scramble in front leaving North Shore just shaking their heads."

It was a great night in Great Neck for the boys from Brooklyn!

Nest Notes:
In addition to the two goas from Mosseri, the JV also received goals from Nemet, Laniado, Sutton, Dweck and Tawil. Aaron Harari and Elliot Stein tallied an assist apiece.

The Hockey teams return to action on November 5th and 6th. The Varsity takes to the road again on Wed, 11/5 when they return to Long Island for a 7:00 pm match with perennial Yeshiva League powerhouse DRS. The JV makes their home debut on Thursday, 11/6, when they face off again against the North Shore Stars. Start time for the JV game at the Falcon’s Nest is 7:00 pm.
