This past week the Yeshivah of Flatbush Pathfinders Program gave me the opportunity to make a a real difference. I traveled to Washington D.C. with my father to lobby congressional representatives on behalf of the NFA (National Franchisee Association) and the BKC (Burger King Corp). This experience was truly eye-openning in that I was exposed to the real world of Policy-Business interaction. I was given the opportunity to learn how governmental regulation dearly affects small businesses. I discovered new insight on issues ranging from Health Care to Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). This process gave me the tools to express myself in an environment where I wasn't exactly comfortable (most of the people were business executives and small business owners). I was able to absorb a substantial amount of information and utilize it to lobby various members of congress. Lastly, I'm a grateful for this opportunity to learn on an unconventional level and assert myself in the real world. ~Morris Bijou
Yeshivah of Flatbush Joel Braverman High School Pathfinders Program:
Beginning in 9th grade, the Pathfinders counselors work with each student to discuss their interests and develop their goals. Students are then given a wide range of opportunities of places where they can volunteer, intern and explore their unique academic pursuits and career ideas. Through the Yeshivah of Flatbush Pathfinders Program, we encourage our students to discover and expand their special talents and abilities and explore career options for the future. Whether a student is actively engaged during the school year or in the summer, we are confident that each Yeshivah of Flatbush student will find a path to success.
